What A Year! The Rookie Perspective...
The best thing about this year's season were all of the big themes that we did. We had a show with the majorettes twirling two fire batons on brightly painted boxes while the flags were doing their thing twirling fire poles and swing flags off of a latin number! The whole show was exciting. We also had a Barbie theme for or annual band brawl with Norfolk State. We all dressed in barbie costumes with flawless makeup. Another theme that I enjoyed was our magic/circus theme where we had magician costumes!

My first time seeing Golden Delight in action was at the WSSU vs. NCAT game in 2007. I was in love with their presence. They were so striking, even while sitting down in the stands, and I was in love with their white bell sleeve uniform. My advice to give to a person trying out next season is to come in confident but always remain humble. When that person is in practice, at home, even when she finally makes it to try outs she should always project a great deal of confidence. That person should always give 200% in everything she is doing.

Performing on the field is one of the most exciting and overwhelming feelings in the world. At that moment, it is all eyes on you, and you know you have to give it your all. Having all of those people watching me do what I love to do gets me even more motivated to kill it on the field! Dancing in the stands is my ultimate favorite thing about marching band. I love having the band behind me playing so hard. The stands are more personal too because that crowd is literally right beside you. Its fun interacting with the crowd in the stands. When I dance I like to give facial expressions to whoever is watching me dance. The biggest difference between GD and High school is that high school was a little more relaxed whereas GD this is your job. You are on call from summer until january because everyone wants to see us in action.

I love my relationship with the band members! The band is like a big family to me. We all look out for one another and have a bond that no one else has because we all are around each other a lot and work very hard together everyday to put together these grand shows. My favorite quote is "anything worth having is worth working for..." I am ready for season 2010, to make a difference in the life of a rookie, as my veterans did for me this season.
